Eczema??????

I have eczema, kinda bad, it's hereditary, I try to cover it up, but the only cure that worked was on my face, and I can't see a dermatoligist, what should I use????

To get effective treatment (ie topical steroids) you need prescription so if you cannot see a dermatologist you need to ask your usual doctor. I have had eczema since I was small (im 46 now) I pretty much keep it under conrol using balneum bath oil and dermovate ointment;

I've just read a book entitled "Under my skin" and it says there that it has no cure! so doctors have to research for it....... If I were you, I will take care of my skin by taking a bath regularly and apply any moisturizers that is prescribe to you by doctors........... take care

I have it all over my body, same prob as you.

I use sudacrem (used for nappy rashes on baby's), seems to stop it getting itchy pretty well. However, I have just spent christmas in mexico ( I live in the UK) and have found that a massive load of sun has cleared it uop really well... Course it's coming back now i'm back in this bl**dy cold country!!

Do you have asthma too? I do. it sucks.

Good Luck.

I just read a couple of days ago in the newspaper (In that Ask Dr. Gott section) a home remedy. They used the peel of a banana. Rubbed it on the problem areas. Won't hurt I guess. And you get to have a snack too. LOL. Won't cost you much to try it. Good luck.

Your family doctor should be able to help you. In my experience the most effective treatments have been steroid-cream based. Over the counter hydrocortisone creams (like Cort-Aid), are topical steroids - though at a lower concentration. You can also try Neem oil, which is a kind of oil from India that contains naturally occurring steroids. You don't want to use steroid creams for a prolonged time because over time they will cause thinning of the top layer of your skin.

It's important once your cleared up to try and prevent flare-ups. One of the biggest culprits for me is almost every brand of laundry detergent save for Cheer and Dreft. I can occasionally use the All Free Clear if I switch it up with Cheer. You might want to consider monitoring the food you eat and your skin condition. Some foods which cause no digestive problems can make me rashy too.
