Eczema Help?!?!?

My three year old son has eczema, it's recently flared up and it's really bothering him. I've tried all the creams from the doctor, which have done nothing, Glaxall Base as well helped a little before, all natural Eczema Ease from the health food store, nothing's easing his discomfort. Has anyone found a product that they have found to really help ease Eczema? It seems like I've tried so much, I just want it to go away! It's so hard to see my little guy feeling so uncomfortable, I'd appreciate some ideas of things to try. Thanks so much!!!!

Hi Michelle!

When you apply those creams prescribed by doctors, do the rashes and swelling resolve for some time then come back after a while?

If so, it's perfectly normal. Don't worry. What your child needs is a multi-disciplinary approach of treatment. It should involve food, environment and lifestyle.

Firstly, I would suggest that if you have not gone to visit a specialist, that is a dermatologist and/or an allergologist, please do so. If you have gone to the GP multiple times and the flare just keeps on relapsing, going to the specialist will give you a more profound diagnosis, not that GP's won't be able to.

To AUGMENT, I emphasise just to AUGMENT, the treatment regimen of the doctor/s, I suggest that you do the following:

1. From hereon, use all hypo-allergenic materials for your son, e.g. clothes, creams, soap
2. Use moisturisers regularly
3. DO NOT use steroid-containing creams continously
4. Figure out factors that initiate the swelling, i.e. allergies, food, environment, weather/climate, plants, dust, etc.
5. It might be worthwhile to try fish oils (ask your local pharmacist on how to take it as it is not very palatable)
6. Watch out for more worrying allergy-related conditions that your kid is prone of: asthma, severe allergy (anaphylaxis) causing lung constriction (not common but worth observing), etc.
7. Going back to food, jot down possible culprits. I would write down EVERYTHING that the child takes ALL THE TIME including the ones that do not cause the swelling as by doing so, you will also discover food that are "safer" to eat

Best wishes and take it easy.

My granddaughters flairs up sometimes and its when we change shampoo or soap or laundry detergent etc so we use oatmeal on the tub to relieve the itch and she likes to play with the oatmeal balls and we use coco butter on her it works wonders

the aveeno products work really well, such as the oatmeal bath, also i am sure you know but daily baths, hot water, and long exposure to water all make eczema flare up
