My eczema is disgusting??

I have eczema on the front of my elbows and on my wrist on both arms. The one on front of my elbows was there since god knows when and the one on my wrist developed last year and it still hasn't dissapeared. it was only on my right hand and a small patch but now it's getting bigger and a small patch is starting on my left wrist. Many ppl ask me what it is and although they don't say it they think it's disgusting (the way they pull back their hands when they r almost touching it). I am still 13 and i don't like wearing long sleeved clothes. and altho i do sometimes it covers my elbow eczema but the one on my wrist still shows. the one in front of my elbows has dissappeared many times till now but always comes back. but the one on my wrist is v. recent. plz help!!!! i put salt & olive oil. i go swimming v. frequently & i dont want 2 quit coz im quite serious.
i live ina v. dry coutry so wat can i do abt my eczema?? anything that'll make it go away quicker?

you need to do 2 basic things honey

1. change your diet
2. change your personal care products

back to number one
-cut out allergens.....did you know that most ppl are allergic to dairy?....cut out as much dairy as possible(it's NOT dietry necessary!)...maybe even gluten you could try cutting out

-get more vegetable fats!....olive oil, olives, nuts and seeds, soy, avocado, flax.....these types of fats your body processes for skin, eye and brain.....you need to hydrate your skin from the inside out!

-cut out trans fats....those nasty partially hydrogentated fats found in A LOT of processed foods

back to number 2

-don't use shampoos and washes with sulfates in them!.....Burt's Bees and Nightingale Naturals are great products to use that are sulfate free

good luck....i suffered from excema for YEARS until i discovered the crap that is in our food and care system...i changed my lifestyle and now i rarely if ever suffer from excema, asthma and allergies

Try looking into more Vitamin D in your diet or take good suppliments (not the ones you find at Walmart or the grocery store)..try looking at a health food store like Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Sprouts, if those are in your area. Also, you can get Vitamin D fortified Orange Juice, milk, etc. Report It

Funny you should ask. My husband has had eczema forever. He treats his with cortisone cream from the drugstore shelves (Wal-Mart Equate generic brand too). He is never discouraged because if I see another break out, he proudly shows me how well his old spot is healing. (His is on his legs, up and down, but mostly at the outsides and the knee caps)

If you aren't' as thrifty (penny-wise) as my husband, choose the best Dermatologist in town and use the Prescription for Eczema that he gives you. Considering you are young and very annoyed by this (as I would be also) you should be motivated enough to find a way to afford the dermatologist and the prescription he provides. (Make sure it has refills before you leave his office because this is a common condition and he doesn't need to see you every month) I think the prescription drug works wonders. Good Luck Honey!! I hope to hear it went away someday. (Yes, I will still be here in 6 months. I will be here forever.) @80)

hey - totally feel for you coz I've had eczema ever since I was born and I've went through very bad times and other times - better

For me, eczema has gotten better as I got older - but I think it's coz I also been trying so many different methods to help it

And as for swimming - I used to be a water polo player and the chlorine totally dries out your skin and cracks so I know how you feel

Here's my little concoction of lotions that I tend to use - maybe it will help you~

1. During the day, if I'm just going around, I like to use Curel - the small bottles you can carry round easily just for quick moisturization (like after you swim, or after you wash your hands or whenever you're dry)

2. Back at home, I like to use Curel for the face and Vaseline Lotion and Eucerin (this one is BIG) for the body specially like your wrists and elbows - I would avoid the other two lotion on your face because they are a little oilier and you don't want to break out with acne

3. ProTopic is a prescription lotion - and you can ask your doctor for it - it works really well for cracked skin/bleeding skin and you need it to heal

4. a cortisone cream is great for really dry areas - I use Pandel (also prescription) and for random areas where the skin keeps looking its peeling, it's great for that

Another thing is eczema is an allergic reaction to the environment around you - so sometimes to help prevent it you can use Benadryl Allergy Lotion (you can buy at it at local drug stores)

Grass probably irritates you too I'm guessing, and so (I compete outdoor track) my skin is constantly in contact with allergens making me itchy later so I bring along a skin cleanser (it's usually called Skin Cleanser - diff companies make it all the time and you can also buy it at a drug store) and you just rub it on and then use a towel to wipe it off and it's like taking a quick shower without water

I wish you luck~~ and I really hope you find a method that works for you!
