Eczema Question?

I have severe eczema, and have had it fluctuate throughout my life. (I'm 24 years old currently.) Recently it has become quite unbearable, but unforunately I do not have medical insurance so can not afford to visit my allergist. I use cortisone creams, avoid allergens as much as possible, wash my clothing and bedding in non-allergen, non-scented detergents, and have an air purifier. Heat and sweat usually worsens my eczema so I even sleep with my window open...all to no avail.

What are options that you have found help?

Advising me to see a doctor is useless since I currently can not afford one.

I'm open to herbs, teas, etc. I just need advice!

I know how you feel. My sister and I had severe eczema. I would scratch it to the point of bleeding. I no longer have the problem. I I do not know if it will help you but what I did was made sure that I kept my skin moisturized, right when I get out of the shower is the best time. I still do that today so as to make sure I don't have it coming back.
Try using acuaphor (not sure the spelling) its like vaseline but you can put it in your purse also. You put it on your skin and it helps trap water so as to keep the area moist. I got the tip from a pharmacist at CVS. You can find it in any general store, like walmart, etc. Also, you should check out your stress levels and eating habits. Stress can trigger eczema in some instances and diet as well. Eat a well balanced diet of whole grains, veggies, fruits and lean meats. Overdose of processed foods can trigger it. Also, in most cases dairy also may add to the problem. Some people have it all their life but it lets up later on.

1. Clean up diet-healthy
2. Limit dairy if needed, try soy products or lactose free
3. Exercise daily
4. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Use vaseline or acuaphor right after a hot shower to keep areas with eczema from getting dry

I hope this helps=)

Hello,
I am sorry that you suffer with this as I know that it can be pretty severe. Two of my three sons have eczema and typically the doctors have prescribed topical ointment called pro topic for locally severe areas. Now I know you don't have insurance but I can tell you that I have seen it on eBay although quite pricey ($90 or so a tube) it give my sons great relief.I hope this helps you and may God bless you.

im in your situation - 21 - had all my life. except im in aus and we get a medicare rebate and i can afford to go to Dr when its real bad. Do you avoid Dairy, im sure you do, as this is the one of leading causes of eczema. Also avoid any other products that may contain dairy. as if yours is seriously bad id avoid everything dairy. Also avoid orange juice and other acidy drinks, as i find i flare up when ive consumed orange juice.

Also in the heat use cold packs. NOT WATER as will dry it out and make worse. i know alot of people will say cold water does help but from experience it drys my skin out making it worse. Put cloth into fridge or freezers and put onto affected skin when going to bed, and this will help eleviate itching which causes spreading. i also use cold packs, packs of peas etc: you get the idea.

Also as we all know moisterizing helps in a really big way. I use a brand called Ego or QV. this is speciafically for skin conditions such as eczema and i wouldnt use anything else. Also sells soaps etc: dont use harsh soaps, only moisterising ones like Dove etc:

also try a diet rich in omega 3 fatty acids! you know fish oil etc:

hope this helps you

Hello there. I suggest that you should try anti-eczema cream/spray combination from http://www.champori.com It is herbal (steroid- and allergen-free) and it is the best remedy that I found for my eczema (been clear for more than a year now after just 2.5 weeks of treatment). It is quite affordable and comes with money-back guarantee, too.
Best,
Bernadette

I use this product all the time. It has helped me more than anything. I use it as a three in one facial cleanser, shampoo and bodywash. http://www.californiababy.com/super-sens...

Green and white tea is something I drink almost everyday. I drink it cold. It seems to help.

And like you mentioned, I avoid allergens - peanuts, milk, oranges and shellfish in my case.

When I first went to a dermatologist for my adult eczema, he gave me some Cetaphil cream and suggested that I apply it while my skin was wet. That helped too.

Taking a good multi-vitamin has been beneficial as well.
