Eczema on my face?

I'm 16 and have eczema on my face, it gets really bad and I end up looking like a tomato! I swim alot which doesn't help as it dries out my skin, and I'm a lifeguard which isn't much help either. I have been to the doctors about it and the stuff they give me for my eczema makes me itch even more, and is oily but doesn't moisturise my skin. Due to the oiliness of the products, I get spots. It's an on-going nightmare at the moment with the cold weather. Can anyone suggest any over the counter products which may be of any use? And where to get them?

I have a bad case of eczema on my face, I look like a tomato also no joke , i use to cry all the time because it makes me look sick and I can't even take pictures. so i went to the doctors and he gave me Desonide and it works like a charm, i can't believe this is my face now also I wash my face in Aveeno oatmeal soap and my face is starting to look fresh and I only been using it for one week..sherry is right this lotion is the best. I've tryed the tree oil but it made my worse so i would stay away from that and cow milk is bad for you also ,I drink soy.. good luck from one tomato to the next..lol

Use soap such as dove sensitive,(somthing that is not harsh on the skin). That should help clear up your skin..

I too suffer from eczema but not on my face. I get it pretty bad on my hands and during the cold weather its even worse. I have recently started using E45 Cream. Its not oily. There may be a E45 cream for your face but I'm not sure. Worth checking with you chemist.

Good luck.

try asking your doctor for betnovate or sinular failing that after washing in shower take a bath and add some baby oil.my uncle used to suffer from sariosis which is worse and it cleared it right up.hope this helps.x eczema sufferer

my son had eczema until i gave him goats milk. not the stuff in shops, we had a goat. i dont know if you are too old to try this, he was only a year old. i dont know why people always look for medicine the whole time, sometimes you just need to make changes.

i'd go to the doctors and get some ointment as apposed to cream because you might be allergic to the cream as i am. I have eczema on my eyelids, it's a nightmare, i've had it since i was about 8, and i haven't found a cure yet. I used hydrocortisone sometimes on the lids although you're not meant to, and also this tub of ointment which you can use in the bath or rub in whenever, can't remember the name of that yet!

i used to have eczema really badly when i was younger. and i used all the prescribed stuff.. i think one relli relli bad one was called umguen something merk or some weird thing... but tea tree oil cream is really good. i used one that was an antispetic cream mousturiser which was oil free. and was relli good. im nerli 18 and havnt had it since i was 15 or 16.. and i know most people grow out of it. sunlight is good too! im sure the eczema society webpage will have something on it though

hydrocortisone cream. it works for me. once you get your condition under control, only a small dab massaged in every couple of days or so will prevent flare ups.

Hi Harry Spaghetti

Here is a herb remedy that will work, but you have to do some work.

1. Take 1-3 droppersful of Echinacea Plus Tincture (at herbdoc.com or another qualified site).

2. Rub Garlic oil ALL over the affected area (Garlic will kill anything if you use enough of it)

3. Give 1-3 glasses of Activated Charcoal Slurry per day (to absorb the toxins out of the blood)

4. Mix equal parts of Aloe Vera Gel, Slippery Elm Powder and Activated Charcoal Powder together (absorbs the toxins externally)

5. Apply a thin layer of this mixture over the AFFECTED area(s).

6. Continue this treatment, until the desired Results are achieved.

This is healing at it's finest and you have freedom when you can do this for yourself or others.

Best of health to you

I have eczema on my hands and use hydrocortisone cream on them all the time.

My only other suggestion is to go back to your dermatologist or doctor and explain that the prescription you were given isn't working right or that you don't like it. He should listen to you and offer an alternative therapy.

why dont you try a natural remedy....evening primrose oil.....works from the inside.....takes a few weeks to kick in but they are good ...for skin..hair ..and hormone balance....and for your well being....I am a great believer in them....you can buy them from any health shop..good luck

Eczema is caused by a lack of Linoleic Acid in the body. Taking Evening Primrose oil capsules should help or Linseed Oil capsules, they are available from health food shops.
Treat the affected areas on your face with Pure Aloe Vera Gel. It will calm the redness and the itching.

I think you will have more luck asking your doctor to arrange an appointment with the dermatology department at your nearest hospital.

I used to have slight eczema on my calf, the doctor kept giving me steroid creams which I used for months to absolutely no effect.
Two weeks after seeing a dermatologist and getting some different creams the eczema is completely gone!

Doctors are expected to know so much about a broad range of conditions, whereas as a specialist is obviously only qualified in one area, and they should know their stuff inside out.

If I ever have a problem I always asked to be referred to a specialist as this tends to get things sorted asap.

Bathe only with a mild soap, such as Dove, Basis or Oil of Olay. Use a small amount of soap when bathing. Keep the water temperature cool or warm, not hot. Soaking in the tub for a short time can be good for your skin because the skin's outer layer can absorb water and become less dry. Soak for 15 to 20 minutes. Then use a soft towel to pat your skin dry without rubbing. Immediately after drying, apply a moisturizer to your skin. This helps seal in the moisture.
I was given a Shampoo that I thought was strange but it worked. Ketoconazole is given by prescription but after over 10 years of eczema and even on my face it really worked. Nothing I used over the counter really worked for me.
I don't know how else to get around your job as a lifeguard which maybe one of the major causes why it has gotten so bad. I wish you luck!!!

I too have eczema. My skin dries out really bad and weeps. Makes for a very big problem. My dermatologist recommended Desonide lotion, and Elidel. Neither of these products are greasy and they work really well for me.

I also have to take regular warm baths in Aveeno Colloidal Oatmeal. If you've never used this product, it is THE BEST thing for itchy skin. I used to break out in hives from head to toe, and this is the only thing that would make them go away. Anyone that I've given it to, swears by it now too. Just make sure you buy the name brand and not an off brand.

To help treat it internally, I take Evening Primrose capsules and Pau D' Arco. Both can be found at your local health food store. I prefer The Vitamin Shoppe because the quality of their products are consistently good, and their prices are the best I've found.

One more thing......STAY AWAY FROM MILK, CHEESE, and BEEF. These products seem to worsen eczema. Just try it for at least two to three weeks and see if you don't notice a difference. Most dermatologists will tell you this too.

Good luck!!

Use a 1% hydrocortisone cream. It has always worked for me. It will moisturize and keep the eczema from itching.

Did you go to a dermatologist? If so call them and explain what is happening and they can change your treatment.

If you didn't see a dermatologist, that should be your next step.

Over-the-counter products may help but what the MD orders may be better.

Rinse you face immediately after swimming and apply a product like Clear Complexion from Aveeno or another mild facial product that doesn't promote spots.

Don't use a lot of soap (or any). Use just warm water to rinse, shower. Keep your hands off your face and apply products with just washed fingers. Don't use too much product on your face. Try to go without makeup most of the time.

Omega 3 capsules!!! Try them!!! worked wonders for me!!!

there is a vitamin complex that can solve the problem. email me for details. have your setting allow me to reply back

As a GP I suggest Aveeno from the chemists. Diprobase moisturiser is also very good. You also need to look at what make up you are using, hair products and fragrance too. Often facial eczema is not eczema but a thing called Peri-oral Dermatitis and eczema treatments may worsen this. It might be worth your GP referring you to see a dermatologist to have patch testing undertaken to determine if you are actually allergic to anything in particular. You should not use steroids on your face unless prescribed and directed by a doctor.

i also suffer from eczema. i get it on my neck and bottom of my face as well as other parts on my body. be careful what moisturisers you use. try alcohol and perfume free. also what you eat effects it. make sure you take your make up off at night as well. it will effect it

Please read this article, it comes from a reliable site & has some good suggestions: (see link)
It mentions avoiding sugar like the plague, (but don't take artificial sugar as it's very bad for you), maybe take honey. & also avoid dairy (you can get calcium from soya milk also).

I think the best product that it mentions is the SK cream, which is not advertised but is fro word of mouth it can be bought from:

David and Margaret Evans are organic farmers and suppliers of both SK cream for eczema and Mi-Gon for migraines and headaches. They work from the cow shed and there is only one telephone line, so if you cannot get through, please be patient. Their number is 01526-832491.

PS>Also, type in eczema in search button for more results on this site.

idon no but thanks for the 2 points
