Eczema / itching on legs? |
I have had eczema on and off for years and years - have used so many different creams/lotions/steroids etc as prescribed by the docs but none seems to have ever worked. I also had this problem for years and found the only thing that got rid of the dry skin and itching is L'occitane Ultra Rich Body cream with 25% Shea Butter. It really works but costs 拢25 for a 200ml jar. Use a cortisone cream. You can get multi tube packs at Costco at a very low price. Also when not itching use a skin cream like Vaseline Intensive Care. i get eczema every winter.. the creams (perscribed or over-the-counter) never really helped that much....what has helped me the most, tanning 1 time per week Elidel! I works wonders. http://www.elidel.com/index.jsp I used to have really bad eczema on my arms and neck and had this problem too. Have you tried coaltar ointment? I know someone that used to use it and it helped her a lot but she had hers on her hands. Sea salt bath Go back to your doctor and tell him again, there are many creams on the market and over a period of use they can become ineffective thereby making it necessary to try another medication, don't give up and put up with the problem GO BACK to the Doc. My son has eczema, and I know what you are talking about when the doctors say just moisturize and don't itch. We use a combination of Noxzema, and binadril. Noxzema was first made for eczema hints the name no-eczema. I use the binadril to stop the itching sensation and the Noxzema to moisturize. I itched for three yrs. I was undergoing physical for a new employer and the doctor asked about my skin. He told me to try hydracortizone10 (something like that) and lamisil together. I mixed them in the palm of my hand and applied after a shower once in the morning and at night before going to bed. I did this for about three weeks and I noticed it was going away and the itching stopped. My skin was still irritated so I continued to try it.It finally went away for good after about a month. I missed the feeling of not itching. Scratching was a daily thing for me,like peeing and brushing my teeth. Try lamisil and hydrocortizone10 i use something called coaltar cream you can also get this as a shampoo and bubble bath but without the bubbles. Go to National Psoriasis Association. com. They have a site there called " It Works For Me". There are many testimonials from people who suffer from both eczema/psoriasis. Many have found everyday cures that work for them. There may be someone there who can help you. BTW... I have the same problem with my scalp. I don't even go to doctors anymore. They just throw some shampoo samples at me that I know won't work, so I fully underdstand your frustration and discomfort. Just a thought - are you sure this is the same thing as the eczema? Had this problem myself for years. and the only thing that ever stopped it was ASDA Dry skin cream... only 2 quid a tube and marvellous....... try it ! Sorry about your misery. There is a company in Donegal called Dermalogics who specialise.www.dermalogics.co.uk.My Father uses there cream Dermacinz and got great relief hope they help you . I am like you and have it off and on more so in the winters dry weather. I have gone through the whole nine yards with the Dr's. also. I have found 2 things that have always worked. Tanning Beds. The lights kill the bacteria(?) that causes your skin layers to grow too fast and causes the bumps/rash/itching. A doctor won't tell you this but it has always worked for me. Second, when you shower, You have to scrub the skins dead layers off.I use one of those green or blue kitchen scrubby things for dishes. (Not SOS pads)They aren't the kindest thing for your skin but if you use a mild soap and just go over your body with it, it takes the dead skin off.My problem areas are my elbows, hips and knees and sometimes under my armpits. Moisturize after you shower with a good lotion. I personally believe in the lotions from Europe as I call them. The cheap stuff in the drug store for $5.00 does nothing compared to the $5.00 lotion you can buy at TJMaxx imported from across the pond. The whole trick is to get rid of the excessive layers of dead skin. i have savvier eczema and i know exactly how u feel. i think the place where u live helps a lot( i live by the see, so the humid whether helps my skin.)try going to the see as much as u can or join some sort of water sports.. but remember to dry ur self quickly after ur done otherwise the water will make u scratch.(the water will moisturizes ur skin an the salt will kill the bacteria) I use a combination of Aveeno Moisturizing cream that has some sort of a menthol that helps soothe the itching and hydrocortisone with aloe. I too have had many prescriptions and none of them worked for me. ask your dr for protopic, it is fairly new but wonderful for eczema. Extra virgin olive oil has cured me. First, from what I've read in various literature, they don't know exactly what exzema is or what cuases it--and in fact it's more of a generic term describing several kinds itchy re-occuring rash--so your excema might have a very different cause and treatment then someone elses. It take some some trial and error to figure out what will work for you. Transfer factors work really well on eczema with every one i have told about it, i personally dint have it but 5 of my friends or there kids had it but now don't thanx to TF. have had really bad stress eczema for years and recently was advised to try rubbing nizoral anti dandruff shampoo onto my skin when it was itchy |
