Permanent damage from ecstasy?

about a year ago i went through an ecstasy phase.. doing the drug quite often.. and one night i did like 6 within a 5 hour period. i'm only 16 and i was 15 at the time. i feel pretty normal, but i'm thinking that i may have done some serious damage to my brain. since then i have went through sleep paralysis, depression, and about 2 weeks ago i finally pushed myself to quit a daily habit of smoking pot. i notice that i have trouble retaining and remembering information. since i'm still young and my brain is still developing, is it possible that i can reverse this damage? since i quit smoking i am very eager to learn. any opinions welcome.

I went through a huge ecstasy phase when i was younger (about 16) (i'm 21 now) which ended up in me selling pills to a cop and everything.. it was bad.. anyways.. i have depression now because of it.. the doctors were telling me that it messed with the seratonin production in my brain . It is a real pain to deal with, but I am a daily pot smoker so that is how i deal. Other than that, i have a little bit of what people call "perma-trip". This happens from any drug if you take it enough, some of the symptoms of the high caused by the drug will stick with you. I have enlarged pupils and i see halos and starbursts on a lot of light sources especially at night, similar to when rolling. When i look at a flat color for example a wall, it looks like i have macular degeneration which is kind of like i'm looking through a screen its hard to describe it just looks a little fuzzy, but i can see clearly. Also, the ecstasy will definitely affect your digestive system. It shrinks your stomach and messes with the acid production in your stomach. I have trouble getting hungry and occasionally i throw up acid from my stomach. All this may seem a little serious, but I know from my own experience and those around me. I am just describing what that drug has done to me. It shoudl probably be noted that i have done ecstasy over like 120 times. Oh i forgot to say about the damage to your brain. Ecstasy does cause tissue damage to the brain, but it wont affect your "brain power" or whatever. The interesting thing about the brain is that if it does not recieve damage in specific areas in specific amounts, the brain will from new pathways for the chemical information to go through. Like burning a bridge down and building a new one next to it. I am still a genius, and have actually gotten smarter with age. The pot definitely kills your memory though. Oh, one more thing, the damage caused to your lungs by smoking a pack a day is completely reversed in 5 years if you stop by the age of i think its 25. Hope i could offer you some insight.

The damage is done. Good job on quitting.

anything is possible if you believe in god. just pray on it and every thing shall be ok. think postive thoughts. good luck

Any drug does serious damage to the brain. If you stay stopped now, You have a good chance at recovery.

If you're serious, the first thing you need is information. Therefore, please read this:

At the tender age of 16, you have permanently damaged your brain. Sad. I'm sorry.
Talk to a psychiatrist about it.

im not sure if you can reverse the damage but definately speak to a neurologist about it....The most important thing is that you quit...you have so much life ahead of you and i know you realize that too....

Hello my friend, I think you are doin' very well, you really have to stop smokin', you are so young and you have loads of interesting things to do, so forget the cigarretes. About ecstasy, it is a very strong drug, and it is goin' to kill everyone who's goin' to continue using it, I'd like you to stop doin' it, and take note of my e-mail son_salum@yahoo.com.br I'm brazillian, nice to meet you, sya.

I have no clue what ecstasy does to the brain, other than harm. It has been negatively publicized so much it is hard to believe that kids are still using it! No drugs are harmless... none... they all have side effects...or lingering damage... So DON'T Do DRUGS!

the damage is irreversable. but good job on quitting. i went thru the same thing a few years back. i've always had a problem with bi-polar/depression. but after taking ecstacy, i must admit it got worse. i'd talk to a doctor and be honest, hopefully they can give you something to at least help. good luck.

no it's there, damage cant be removed. i smoked pot for awhile, and i now have short term memory loss. no lie, and im only 15, but we all make mistakes.

I'm 25 now and took alot of pills for years. I normally took around 12 in a night most weekends although I have now given up.

In my opinion smoking weed does more damage not just to your physical self but also your brain. I'm very wary of peoples casual attitude to smoking compared to other drugs. I think some people are more susceptible but there is no doubt it can trigger sycosis.

As far as pills go there are not too many studies to reflect the long term damage although the best we have appears to suggest after around one year any lasting damage is gone.

Pills can affect your mood for weeks after taking but in terms of long term damage I tend to agree that there isn't too many long term effects. Thats isn't to say don't be sensible and there can't be any damage.

I had a great time using pills and believe I took a balanced decision which I don't regret one bit.

For further advice google 'frank' for their website.

I guess the ecstasy didn't scare you enough and now you are suffering from the effects of pot. After you've been away from pot for a while your memory should improve. If you have damaged your brain it is doubtful you will be able to reverse it. Drug abuse is a dead end. I hope you can do better.

You should really talk to a professional, maybe a drug counsellor, but I am pretty sure that just one use of Ecstacy does permanet brian damage. Basically it is like taking an icecream scoop out of your brain during each use.

The problem is that, yes your brain is still developing and yes ecstacy would have affected the receptors in your brain, causing depression, irritability and poor decision making.

The good news. Your brain is huge, adaptable and can be retrained. It is good that you stopped your daily habit of marijuana smoking, because that would decrease your short term memory(but damage is not permanent). If you start reading, a lot, and start doing brain exercises, like Suduko, or even Big Brain Academy on Wii, you will start to get your smarts back. This will help with your confidence and probably help to make you less depressed.

I still think it would be a good idea to talk to a drug counsellor so you could figure out what made you become such a large drug user at such a young age. Use this as a positive experience. Learn everything you can and maybe you can go talk to other schools about your experience and what the facts are about ecstacy(how it is made and what it does to you). Because teens are generally uneducated about drugs and where they really come from, they never seem to learn how they really affect your body until it is too late(like your experience).

Don't worry, everything will work out and you are defiinately taking the right steps to make things better for yourself!

Just to clarify what Christian was saying, Marijuana is not as harmful as Ecstacy. I don't think cancer patients take Ecstacy to alleviate symptoms and I am pretty sure that the people with GLaucoma that smoke it are happy they can see. I also think the people with MS that can get up and walk in the morning don't think that Marijuana is bad.

Ecstacy is man made and on the same level as Crystal Meth, where as Marijuana has been a medical treatment since it's discovery in the Arabias.

First let me reassure you that Ecstasy will not necessarily leave permanent damage to your brain chemicals and function.

If however you have a pre-existing mood disorder like depression/bipolar/anxiety, heavy use can trigger or exascerbate these conditions.

I would be more inclined to point the finger at your pot smoking for you memory difficulties, sleeping trouble and depression. Stay off the pot and you should feel better

i did the same thing but six and a half pills i dont have any of those problemsm, you can go to the doctor and get an anti depressant medicine that recreates the serotonin levels in ur brain

look most of the people below just talk rubbish etc the boy at 15 says he has short term memory loss tht aint short termmemory loss is memory gaugia and ur brain does heal it justs takes time trust me i was taking up to 15 pills a nite fri and sat and i ended up in hospital and after tht i thought i was goin to die everday and got paranoid wouldent go out my house etc now i am fine jst go to a pychiatrist trust me .xD
