Would ecstasy help people with depression? |
I don't do ecstasy, I don't have depression, I'm just curious. It sounds logical. Would it work theoretically? Or why not? Wrong...the mechanism of action of metamphetamines (ectasy is one of the group), will "squeeze out" of the brain cells, some substances, that cause euphoria ( a false sensation of well being) and false energy (sleeplesness and persistancy) the substances i refer to, are serotonin, norepinephrine and epinephrine (adrenaline) Temporarily, yes. It overstimulates your serotonin receptors which make you happy. But each time you do it, you damage some of those receptors, which over time will lead to horrible and irreversible depression and inability to feel happy. It has happened to several people I know and I don't recommend it. I'd suggest talking to a doctor about some antidepressants. =) nooooooooo, trust me dont go there. it would only work in the very short term, while the drug is in effect. the after effects is a decline in serotonin levels in the brain which pushes depression deeper. Temporarily maybe, but when you 'come down' you'll probably experience worse depression than before. Never do ecstasy on a regular basis. It can lead to severe depression in otherwise normal people. People who are predisposed to depression or other mental illness, probably shouldn't, but often do use street drugs to self medicate, which often leads to a worsening of overall symptoms. Don't!! Ecstacy causes depression often, actually. Even though it makes you really happy while it's working, it causes your brain to dump all its endorphins out at once. That means when the drug wears off, you CAN'T feel happy for a period afterward. In fact, it would amplify any problems a person with depression would have in the first place. No, 'E' is to extreme of a drug to use for depression. I have an old friend who is always on ecstasy. She has horrible mood swings and never sleeps. Her mind is damaged and will never be able to recover. Marijuana would work, but still marijuana makes your mind lag over time. |
