when anorexics feel hungry they are losing weight? As a mental health professional with 20+ years experience, now retired, and having some patients with anorexia, I can tell you that, for them, feeling hungry and losing weight have no connection. They are going to lose weight, and much more, whether they feel hungry or not. They have "learned" to ignore and otherwise undermine the messages their bodies are telling them when they feel hunger. I believe you can still read about it, in some detail, in the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). God Bless you. No. When anorexic people are hungry they ignore it or if they're bullimic, they eat and eat and then throw up. It depends on how long that have been anorexic, I think, I'm not quite sure. But I do know, that when when you starve yourself your body goes into "starvation mode", which causes your body to store fat rather than lose fat. But ignorance of anorexic people makes them think if they don't eat, then they will loose weight. They actually end up losing skin pigmentation, hair, and muscle instead of fat. |
