Eating disorders? Help!?

I am a teenage girl and last night I found out two of my best friends have eating disorders. One is bullimic and binge eats, and the other is anorexic, bullimic, and binge eats. I am so worrried about them and I don't know how to help! They say that they sometimes can't control when they make themselves puke. And they are not fat! I thought that eating disorders were just in your head and if you just had positive self esteem, they would go away. But my friends said that they just can't stop binging and starving themselves and making themselves puke. They really want help and this is tearing them up, but I have never had an eating disorder and am comfortable with my weight so I do not know what they are going through. How do you fix an eating disorder? HELP!

You're a nice friend to care about these two girls so much.
They are lucky to have you for a friend.
Yes, your right in that eating disorders are mental health diseases. But, contrary to popular belief, you can't just wish them away by having positive self esteem. The people who have these diseases don't want to have them, and would do anything they could to be normal.
But they are both diseases that can be successfully treated with psychiatric help.
I'm assuming that both of these girls are in treatment, or that their parents know of the situation? If not, you need to tell their parents what's going on. You're not doing your friends any favors by keeping their secrets for them. And, in fact, it can be very dangerous. So make sure that their parents are in on this one.
Be supportive of your friends and know that this is a long road and that they will need your love and support.
Good luck to all three of you.

YOU do not fix an eating disorder. It takes serious counseling. Not all of it is in positive self-esteem. Some of it is in control issues. There are numerous causes. So, just be really supportive. Do NOT watch what they eat. That will not help them at all. Make sure they get into counseling. Don't tell anybody what's going on, that's their job. Still be their friend.
Good luck!

Eating disorders can be fixed, but you need to get your friends help. Could you tell their parents or even your parents? Your parents would probably help you get them some help. If your parents or their parents can't help, then go to a teacher or something that you trust would help. Good luck!

I know this may seem stupid. but tell them to talk to their PARENTS!! Now!! because they will need professional treatment (counseling /rurtritionalist) the sooner they start the treatment the shorter the treatment!

Good luck and remember your their friend, you have to help them even if it's hard! Hope things turn out for the best.

YOU can not fix it by yourself your friends need to go to a doctor ar a counciler or someone that can help......there is a place in champaign it is called the pavilian and you can get your friends to sign themselves in and be an inpacient which is when they would stay in a room and they would have to eat three meals a day and they are not allowed to go to the bathroom alone bc they want to make sure that they don't mak themselves puke.....this is not the only place that does this you need to get online and search for aplace near you and get them some help fast....i know you want to help but they need more than just some advice they need mental and medical help.......
