Ear Infections? |
Hi, I've got a really bad ear infection and I'm in agony :o( the thing is I don't know if I'll be able to get into the doctors before the weekend. Can anyone recommend a really good over the counter remedy that has worked for you? If it's an inner ear infection, antibiotics are the only thing that'll work. Recommend trying to get to the dr. Here's a link for herbal remedies, geared more towards outer ear canal infections, so may not help depending on what you have. Look under E. Also, pick up some ibuprofen, not tylenol, ibuprofen reduces fever, pain, and reduces swelling-tylenol doesn't. Could try putting heat over your ear, if that makes it worse try ice. Whichever you can tolerate better. Nurse just told me yesterday that heat will increase the circulation to the area, which will reduce the number of white blood cells to the area. You need to get to the doctor, if it's infected, only an antibiotic is going to help. i had an ear ache one and i went to the doctor and they told me i needed to get my ears drained.. it helped a whole lot. if that is the problem which it could be a number of other things too.. but theres an over the counted treatment you can buy for draining your ears.. also get some ear drops and put however many drops it says in your ear no more than twice a day for a week before you do the treatment. I think you will need a course of anti-biotics, they only other thing you can try are painkillers and ibruprofen taken at alternative 2 hour intervals. it's going to sound a bit ridiculous... but they have this liquid foot drops like Tinactin... anti-fungal drops work wonderfully on my ear infection... Here is what my mom has me do and it really works. Go to the pharmacy and get Sweet oil. Put like 3-5 drops in your ear and put a heating pad on it for about 20 minutes. Then lay with your ear down on a pad, and let it drain. The key is to get your ear to pop and the fluid drain out, which is painful but once its over with you are smooth sailing. I have not had any luck except with antibiotics. They will treat you at the hospital if you go. If you can't, try a warm compress on your ear. It is going to be too sore to treat any other way. Try some aspirin too until you can get to the doctors. this is an easy one hun...go to any local health food store and ask for GARLIC AND MULLIEN OIL it's often just called ear ache oil....works amazing! If it's that painful you should get to a doctor right away and go on antibiotics. If left untreated an ear infection can cause you to lose your hearing. Studies say that antibiotics don't help anymore for an ear infection. I read in a magazine last night to get two cups of salt, put the salt in a clean sock and microwave until the heat is not uncomfortable and then lay on the "salt rag" this draws out the infection without having to use an antibiotic. The only over the counter medicines available are homeopathic. I have also put sweet oil in my ear for the pain. hi sorry about your ear infection ...try olive oil warm it up Little bit by standing the bottle in some hot water ...pour a little bit into your ear and make sure you lie down with your head to one side so it doesn't run out ...this should help ease it but you will probably need antibiotics ..hope this helps ....ps don't use cotton-wool because it will soak up the oil and it wont work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have ear aches all the time and my doc keeps me on the antibiotic Predisone (think it spelled wrong). Keeps me from being dizzy headed and having vertigo and kills the pain. If you have a bad ear infection, it is best to see a doctor as soon as possible. You can buy over the counter medications like ear drops for pain relief but most ear infections are treated with antibiotics. If not treated properly, serious complications may arise if not treated soon, i.e., fever, headaches, ear aches, trouble hearing, etc. All Doctors keep a few appointments free for real emergencies. If not successful, go to your nearest hospital. Ears and hearing is far too precious to mess about with. An old cure is hot[not too hot] olive oil,a few drops in your ear. I had a really bad ear infection last year after going to the waterpark at Alton Towers and went to the pharmacy at Tesco's. They wouldn't give me anything because the only ear stuff they stock are for clearing wax (lovely!!!) Had to get ear drops from the doctor which cleared it up - I apparently suffer from Swimmer's Ear which is odd considering I only swim about once a year!!! oh ive had 3 nasty ear infections, lost my hearing on first regained it later, poor you, take strong painkiller, and get into doctors asap, my mum used to put warm oil in my ear felt weird. dont poke about in the ear will make it even sorer, hope you get better soon. This sounds daft but an anti histamine can help along with paracetamols, good luck. Try ear candling. I have done it all of my adult life and used it to help treat my children's ear infections. You can buy them at most health food/ supply stores. Usually 1.99 to 5.99 each. Nurofen Plus is the only painkiller strong enough. Gargling soluble aspirin might help as well. As a child growing up with sever ear problems I have done a lot of research on this topic. |
