Regarding inner ear infections?

Hi has anyone in here ever had an inner ear infection and this is a two part question. How long did it last and did it turn into a sinus infection. How come they dont perscribe antibiodics for it? Thanks and peace

I get them ALL the time.

Most times what happens is it starts off with a stuffy nose, and since they are all relatively close to one another you end up with fluid in your ears. When it doesn't drain from your ears, bacteria can collect in there and cause an infection.

Nowadays doctors are hesitant to prescribe antibiotics for two reasons. First because taking antibiotics often can make you immune to them causing you more problems down the road. The second reason is because research is showing that antibiotics really do no good with ear infections

For me, it usually lasts about 2 weeks. The pain starts off very mild, then gets worse for a couple of days then trails off again.

There are ear drops that might help with pain, you can ask your doctor for that. I have tried warm clove oil, but it hurt pretty bad so I wouldn't recommend it. Over the counter pain pills work too, and sometimes even a warm wet cloth helps.

An inner ear infection is not actually an "infection". It is often a build up of fluid behind the ear drum which causes pressure and pain. A decongestant is the best treatment for this. Also, new studies show that ear infections of any kind have the ability to heal themselves without antibiotics. When antibiotics are prescribed too frequently over a person's lifetime, you are more prone to catching some of the superbugs out there such as MRSA which are very difficult to treat. Less antibiotic use is best.

I may take a week or more to clear up and no, it does not always turn into a sinus infection. In fact, it rarely turns into a sinus infection.

I use to get these every year. They usually last about a week or so, but they are really painful. My doctor actually perscribed a motion sickness pill to take. It really helped alot. Good Luck.
