Does cipro work for e coli infections?

Usually. Fluoroquinolones, though, are famous for how rapidly bacteria can develop resistance to them. It's a good choice for initial treatment, though more expensive than trimethoprim-sulfamethoxasole.

Cipro (Fluoroquinolone) is used for many infectious organisms that are traditionally antibiotic resistant. Your E-coli is among them. They are not effective with viral organisms like common colds & flu etc. Common side effects of this drug can be gastrointestinal in nature, like nausea, diarrhea etc. Take care..
