Infection with E-Coli , question. I dont know where exactly to categorize this but am posting it here for now. |
hi, my aunt who is wheelchair bound has had her urine culture done, and it showed up E-Coli. Previously she had a culture done for urinary tract infection, and only klebsiella showed up which was treated, and eradicated by Norflox*. So a drug called Furadantin (trade name) / Nitrofurantoin (main chemical ingredient) was prescribed for E-Coli. My querry is.. This drug is not available in country i live in , is there any other drug strong enough to eradicate E-Coli? If so , how long is the course. Does it effectively eradicate the bacteria? We have already scheduled to take my aunt to the doctor, but it will be a while before her appointment date is up, so I was just wondering if anyone here knew anything that helps. This is not to prescribe treatment but to know if there are the other alternative drugs available out at where you live . if so, we would be able buy them online , after consulting with our family Dr. if these are ok for her condition. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks!! I also happened to read that E-Coli can not effectively be destroyed by Antiobiotics. But what is the option for someone who has E-coli infecting her uterine tract ? Are antibiotics not used in such cases? There are LOTS of other antibiotics that can be used. Examples include Bactrim or Septra (Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxasole), Cipro (Ciprofloxacin), Levaquin (Levofloxacin), Keflex (cephalexin), and Ceftin (cefuroxime) to name a few. thanks for the helpful answers. I asked a friend who is a doctor about Septra too which Cyndi talked about. it seems it is good. But she isnt a urologist, so we have to wait until we get an opinion from the specialist about which one to get. Report It Nitrofurantoine is available but currently not in stock but seems Bactrim is. am going to call and find out if Septra is in. Report It pharm says its in. we dont jst call a doctor here until appointment and talk to him unless we pay an extra high fee. we may not have all the meds here. but we sure have access to the internet and we can always avail of the good medications doctors tell us of once we knw its ok. Report It Well a good alternative mediacation to this is Septra, aka Bactrim. This is excellent for UTI's. This is confusing me a little. Why was your aunt prescribed a med that's not available in your country? Where was she when this happened? Check the answer above mine, from the Pediatrician. He's mentioned a number of good meds. Don't wait for the appointment, contact the doctor now and ask about these meds. |
