Can a belly button piercing be infected by e.coli? |
I got my belly button pierced for the second time last week. When the needle was going through puss came out. I immediately went to the doctor, and was given antibiotics, because he thought I had staph infection. When the cultures came back this week it showed that I had e.coli infection in my belly button!!! Could that be right or should I get a second opinion? He took the ring out for me and told me to keep it out for good, but when i originally went to see him he told me not to, because it would cause an abscess which would cause me more problems? Where exactly should I go from here? Has anyone experienced this before? Yes it is possible. If you've had cultures I'd say you don't need a second opinion. Lab results don't lie. I'd say follow the docs last instruction since he now knows what it is he's dealing with. As for the abscess, call him up and ask him why he changed his mind on that, and in the future, when you have a question like that, don't leave the doctor's office until you ask it and get an answer. Just a suggestion. Of course it is right. Could be any bacteria just about. Be thankful it's E. coli. Easy to treat. YES, it can be e-coli. e-coli is a gram negative bacteria, most antibiotics will treat this |
