Please Answers?

I just found out that my neice had a baby 2 1/2 weeks ago and the baby is in the hospital for meningitis, kidney infection, and e-coli. Could anyone explain how bad that is and what could have caused it.What is the chances of him comming out of this a healthy little boy. The Baby was full term and weight 8.5 lbs. She was in labor for 48 hours and I was told that the baby could have had a bowel movement while in labor and that is what could have caused the e-coli. So is that possible? I am really concerned. Can anyone give me some questions that I can ask the doctor about the baby's condition. What should I ask him to assure me and my neice that he is getting the best treatment.

As a nurse, he is getting the best treatment possible, it's the faith you have to have in our system. I would ask what the cultures are sensitive to and what antibiotics are you giving.

I am an oncology nurse but I will tell you what I know about pediatrics. When kids are that young all infections turn to meningitis, why I am not sure. e-coli is causing the kidney infection and is now in the blood? I have heard the BM thing too, but I am not sure that is the truth, especially 2.5 weeks out. Ask the doctor what they think. There is no shame in not knowing

Macrodantin works if the organism causing the infection is sensitive to it. Symptoms are more likely due to something other than the med. Maybe you should try to get to see the doctor Monday.
