What is it Dystonia or NOT?

My 9 year old friends son is suffering from spasms in his right foot, it started a few months ago where he couldnt write with his right hand anymore so he started to right with his left hand, then he started to limp and now he has these crazy right foot spasms that the doctors are saying is symptoms of Dystonia.
'
Has anyone or know someone who has experienced such a thing and what is this. Please we are all so worried for him and he has been taken out of school.

What will work for him, does anyone know a good doctor in the NJ/NY or surronding areas?
Any help will help.

My friend has Dystonia. Well, you can have Dystonia in your entire body or just in certain areas. My friend has it on the left-side of his body. My friend got it when he was around 15. He told me he just started having really bad head and back aches, then he got to a point where he couldn't move. It's basically when your muscles get so stiff you can hardly move them. He says there are days when he can't even hold a spoon to eat.

I found the following web-site,
www.dystonia-foundation.org, hopefully it can help you.

Did he have a reaction to a medication that caused this dystonia? I have read that it can either be a rare inherited disease or due to a drug reaction. Sorry, I live in Canada.

Dystonia is a neurological disorder causing involuntary, sustained muscle contractions that result in repetitive movements, twisting and abnormal postures. An estimated 300,000 people in North America have dystonia.

Primary treatments for dystonia alleviate symptoms by adjusting movement-related nerve signals or temporarily immobilizing targeted muscles. In more severe cases, surgery may be used to disable or regulate certain brain regions or nerves
