DYSTONIA. My cousin has just been diagnosed. Any information about the muscle movement disorder appreciated! ( Dystonia is a movement disorder that causes the muscles to contract and spasm involuntarily. The neurological mechanism that makes muscles relax when they are not in use does not function properly. How old is your cousin? Is it in one localized area or throughout the entire body? Different states have research hospitals that are making progress in slowing down progression of this disease. Contact your local hospital and find the closest physician in neuromuscular science. Do not accept just a neurologist. Neurologists are really great for making the diagnosis but for care after diagnosis you need a neuromuscular specialist. |
