Dysphagia (problem swallowing) and connection to tonsils being removed.? |
When I was 5 I had my tonsils and adnoids removed. There were no complications or anything. But growing up I have always had to drink something with my food. If I dont, I end up throwing it back up and it causes me to weeze and have a tight pain in my chest until I do. I thought this was normal until I was old enough to realize no one else needed a drink with dinner. I have been told I just must not chew my food enough, but I need a drink with things like ice cream, milkshakes, hot drinks, soups, so pretty much everything. What I have come to the conclusion of but not yet seeked a physicians educated opinioin, is that when I had that surgery some how the muscles in my esophagus were damaged and do not work. Does this make sense to anyone else? Any other suggestions? Thanks and sorry about my horrible spelling. I know it's not a mental thing, I'm 23 years old and cant even remeber when this started. I can not remember a time when I ate food without a drink to get it down. I have tried the whole mind over mater thing and all that it has done as caused me to throw the food back up :). So in other words, i know its not a mental thing. I would definitely see your doctor. You may have a stricture in your esophagus. You will probably need to have a barium swallow and X-rays done. Possibly a EGD(endoscope). I have heard of people having a pouch in their esophagus and had to have surgery. It could be a number of things. How is your saliva production? http://www.doctorhoffman.com/xton.htm I truly doubt it. But what you should look into is the flat at the back of you throat that covers your trachea when you swallow can give you some problems if there is something wrong with it, such as cancer or disease. Not to scare you or anything.... but go get it checked out. Its impossible to diagnose anything on Yahoo Answers. Haha. It doesn't matter if you want to drink with your meals. It would probably be damage to nerves that lead to the esophagus, not to the esophagus it's self.It would be too far down to touch during tonsilectomy. Please have your Thyroid checked by a Dr.and have them check for Groiters also . Both of these will give you problems in swallowing things with or without a liquid . Sometimes even getting a liquid down is hard, so have this checked out sooner rather than later as this can be serious . ya you got to check that out to be safe. |
