What could be wrong??

I have gastritis (aka, non-ulcerative dyspepsia). I am currently taking a very high dose of Prevacid and awaiting a gastroenterologist appointment. I was taking a lower dose in conjunction with metoclopramide. After developing side effects, I was switched to a higher does of Prevacid and was taken off the metoclopramide.

The medication regime seemed to work for a while (about 2 months). But, it doesn't seem to be working anymore and I am throwing up almost everything I eat. I have made an appointment with my family doctor, but can't get in for a week. And, the last time I was there, he kind of didn't know what to do with me, beyond providing the high dose of Prevacid. Any ideas what this could be?? Want to help point my physician in the right direction. Might this be a medical emergency??

if i were you i would go the hospital and let them run every test possible. its not normal that you are throwing up everything you eat after all that they have perscribed you. so dont waste any more time and go!

Ann C: Went to the ER and turns out that, even though they couldn't scope my stomach to see what was going on, I was overmedicated. I had symptoms of toxicity, but was also on the wrong medication. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have mentioned the high dose I was on. Report It

Hutchinsgayle73: Great suggestion. I'll have to mention it to the gastroenterologist when I see him. Thank-you for your help. Report It

could it be you are on to high of dose of prevacid and so your stomach isnt making enough acid to break down the food and that causes you to vomit? i hope all goes well for you.

My husband has same condition. If he eats smaller amounts at meals he doesn't vomit. He was diagnosed with hiatal hernia. Part of the upper GI is bulging out enough to cause the vomiting. If you can't keep anything down, go to a clinic or the ER. I wouldn't wait a week because you'll be dehydrated and too weak to get there anyway. Not to mention, if you are vomiting that much, the acidity will cause ulcerations in the throat and upper GI.
