I have dysmenorrhea but I'm allergic to aspirin. What OTC drugs can I take for the pain?

Six grams of fish oil per day (or about 1,000mg of eicosapentanoic acid, 700mg of docosahexaenoic acid) can be taken every day for 2 or 3 cycles and then reduced, or taken for a total of 14 days starting 10 days before your period.

Bromelain at 250 to 500mg can be taken 3 to 4 times per day on an empty stomach. Fish oil and bromelain make a powerful anti-inflammatory combination.

Tylenol

aspirin is the worst thing to take anyway, it is a blood thinner, and makes you cramp MORE. Motrin otherwise known as ibuprofen is what works best for me. it is an anti inflammatory. it does lengthen your period for an extra day or 2, but it is lighter, so you do not cramp as much. i take 3 of the 200 mg over the counter Motrin, and it always eases the pain. just make sure you eat something with the pills, or else expect a stomach ache

ponistan(mefenamic acid)

Pain Killers are not recommended for this ailment because it will lead to an increase in bleeding Go herbal . Try out the treatment. Dysmenorrheal cramps or painful menstruation, involves menstrual periods that are accompanied by either sharp, intermittent pain or dull, aching pain, usually in the pelvis or lower abdomen. Painful menstruation affects approximately 50% of menstruating women, and 10% are incapacitated for up to 3 days. This pain may precede menstruation by several days or may accompany it, and it usually subsides as menstruation tapers off.Tea is very helpful in resolving menstrual pain.tea contains ingredients which are very good anti spasmodic and uterine regulators.

try ibuprofen or better still an antispasmodic

Ibuprofen or naproxen are the most potent OTC drugs against the prostaglandins that cause dysmenorrhea. Tylenol is much less effective. If you are truly allergic to aspirin, use these with caution, as a small percentage of people are cross-reactive (allergic to both).
