Ladies: any of you that has worn the ortho evra patch have probs with it?

I got on it at 17 for Dysmenorrhea (painful period cramps with other symptoms like nausea and fainting), and I wore it for 2 yrs., now I'm off. I'm hearing all this talk about blood clots and heart probs from it and was wondering should I get checked for any of these probs?

I did have a lot of problems with it so I only used it for 8 months and went back to the pill. With the patchmy periods used to be very painful and every time I have to change it my skin would be very irritated in the area where the patch was. The last month I used it I had put it on my back and when I took it off, there it was a permanent mark of the patch!! I had it for 2 years, it wouldn't go away it looked as if the patch had burned my skin. Anyway a tattoo took care of it. I have heard of women having heart attacks because of hte patch it is very dangerous, that is why you don't see it advertised on TV anymore. I think the pill is the best way to go.

My problems went away when I quit it and i have been off of it for almost 4 years, and I have heard that the problems appeared while you are on it, if you have quit it, it is more likely that the hormones have already left your bodu but you still want to mention it to the doctor.

Well with any form of birth control you have the pros and the cons. Also all the birth control I read up on have those side effects, however if you do certain things like smoke or have health problems they increase your risk. But I feel you don't have to get check if you don't have any symptoms, but if it frightens you than go ahead and get check just to be on the safe side. Good luck.

Best to be on the safe side. If you are concerned get checked out. I myself had several kidney, cervical, and urinary tract infections while on the patch. I am now back on the pill and have had no infections.
