People with Dyslexia.....?

This probably sounds stupid but this is the only way to ask with getting the answer I need so sorry if it soudns dumb.

Do you have a problem with reading out loud to others?

Do you Avoid it? If so how, do you say you don't have your glasses or do you just come out and say I have dyslexia and it's kinda hard to read to you or how does this work....

I have dyslexia and HATE reading out loud to the point it's embarssing because it would sound like I'm an idiot... so what do you do?

I don't have dyslexia, but I have worked with a lot of people who do have dyslexia. Many of them feel as you do. I understand your discomfort. Explain to people what the problem is and explain a little about dyslexia. If you know that you will have to read something out loud to people, practice it beforehand, and that will usually help. My advice would be to not pretend that it is something else. If you do that you will always have to make up some excuse. Just say, "I have dyslexia, which means reading is very difficult for me. It is even more difficult when I have to read out loud to other people. Could someone else please read this?"

If you are in a setting where there is a group presentation or something like that and you know you might be called upon to read aloud, speak to the presenter beforehand and explain the problem and ask for a passage that you can prepare the night before or something like that. If you are in school or college your teachers should be made aware of your problem if they do not already know.

Best of luck.
