Could i have dyslexia? |
i am 13 years old, and think i might have dyslexia.i often spell simple words wrong or repeat them in writingex(dose/does). i somtimes switch letters in my speech (ex:animal/aminal). but other than that my speech is perfect. i have to go over my writen documents over and over again, and make a mistake in like, every 4 words. i am very talented in creative areas like drama, music, and art. but in math and writing i suck and never can remember what the teacher says. help please. this is not a joke so don't post dumb answers. Sounds like you might have dyslexia. It's often present in creative people and spelling words wrong like that is a common symptom. It might be something else like tiredness or lack of concentration. Either way, you should ask your teacher if you could do a test for dyslexia. My whole class had to take one when I was at school so they are available. Turning letters and entire words around is a sign of dyslexia, which is not a very well understood phenomena. Many children show signs of dyslexia before second grade, but if it persists, it is taken more seriously. My mother is terribly dyslexic, leaving out letters, turning words around, and writing words with letters misplaced. I am somewhat dyslexic and often write on the right side of the paper first, read numbers "backwards", etc. Some theories are that dyslexia has to do with the brain's hemispheric connections, etc. One help might be to use a ruler/bookmark when you read, putting it above the line you are reading and moving it down to keep your eyes from jumping around (if that is one of your symptoms). On math and writing, you may just need to find new ways to study, such as tape recording your notes. it sounds like to me that you do my brother is also the same way with b's and d's you should check out this website in the sources it could answer a lot of questions....but just remember no two people have the exact same symptoms or signs of dyslexia...hope i help It's a possibility that you could be mildly dyslexic, but you could also just be a bad speller. I doubt that many of the people answering this question will know everything about dyslexia, so if this is a genuine concern for you, I would see a specialist. a lot of people do that. but if it happens a lot you should go to a doctor, someone who has the right kind of test to see. if it only happens once in a while, then thats normal. but to have dyslexia i think it usually happens all the time. numbers and letters flip or they even go upside-down. i no a long time ago i would copy something down, and it would say 1995, and i would write 1959 on my paper. and i did it a lot. it could also be a lack of sleep. it could be a lot of things. if it really bothers you, ask a nice favorite teacher that will care. they can help you. or a counselor, or a parent, someone who can help. Check out this website www.diannecraft.org It has some great info. we are working with our son who is having similar problems as you. Incredible information easy to understand. read her papers she has written. Good luck i have dysgraphia with dyslexic tendencies and i feel your pain |
