Can dyslexia be confused for ADHD?

Can dyslexia be confused for ADHD?

Well, dyslexia and adhd often coincide. However, if a child has dyslexia, she might exhibit some signs of adhd without meeting the full criteria for diagnosis. An example of this would be difficulty paying attention in class, which would be due to the child's perceptual impairment rather than an intrinsic focusing problem.

Not usually....dyslexia is about not seeing the letters correctly, or in the correct order and ADHD is not being able to concentrate or sit still. Both of them can be considered "learning disabilities"

Not necessarily. But dyslexia and ADHD or ADD often occur together.

I'm an adult, yet have been dyslexic all my life. ADD was a problem, too. And other family members have similar problems, including my late father, so I'm guessing in some cases it can be genetic.

Fortunately (I hope), these problems weren't recognized when I was in school. Yes, I was often punished for 'not paying attention', but I wasn't drugged.

As an adult, I diagnosed myself, and began working on my problems ... an ongoing process. Although I still can't spell worth a darn and am lousy with figures, I'm creative, as are many with ADD and/or dyslexia.

Sorry if I've overdone my reply. Just gathered-up thoughts. Blame it on AADD, i.e., Adult Attention Deficit Disorder. ;-)

Sure. It's not at all uncommon for a teacher to accuse a student of not paying attention and demand that their parents put them on drugs just because they were having trouble reading. ADHD is just a catch-all term teachers use when they don't want to deal with students with problems like dyslexia.
