I've been taking seroquel for 3 months now, muscle twitching in leg? Is this tardive dyskinesia?

I am taking 100mg once a day at night. Just the other day I've noticed this twitch in one of the muscles in my thigh. It has been twitching on and off since yesterday.

While my psychiatrist told me the risk is low for developing any of these side effects from the use of anti-psychotics, I still worry. I won't be on this for too much longer.

Do you think my leg is just tired and that's why it's twitching? Am I being paranoid? I did go swimming the other day and I did tread water for about 20 minutes, and I never get exercise. I'm not sure...

this is personal advice, not medical advice

i take seroquel also, and have recently developed muscle rigidity, a possible sign of life-threatening Neuroleptic malignant syndrome. however, no other drug will allow me to sleep, including the strongest sleeping pills on the market, so one has to choose what risks to take.

if you suspect seroquel of causing the possible serious side effects, i would strongly recommend you discuss other possible pharmaceuticals. also, 100 mg is a very low dosage, and generally there isn't that much risk. in fact seroquel is considered the safest of atypical antipsychotics - all of which have some risk

my GUESS (not a medical guess) is that your twitching is not caused by seroquel, both due to your low dosage, and particularly due to the fact that that isn't one of the listed symptoms. please reference the two sites i list below :)

tardive dyskinesia usually is relating to a lip smacking type movement. A patient with this symptom looks like they are constantly licking their lips and are opening the mouth alot. But you can experience involuntary movement in appendages. What they taught us in school is the hallmark sign of the mouth movements though.

although what you are experiencing could be related to your meds, it sounds like it is more likely a spasm of the muscle caused by your working out.

Well...I'm not sure if your being paranoided or if there is something to it....I do know that if you do get tardive dyskinsia there is a chance you'll never be the same again.

I took a pill and devoloped twiching and I was younger and didn't think much of it...well to this day I will still get very violent twiches and my whole body will twich not just one part. It will feel weird like before it does it in just my leg...my leg will twich and then usually my whole body will. It sucks...

Talk to your doctor ASAP. That's not really something you want to be guessing at. Ya know. If it were to stick with you and you were driving or something...then what? Be on the safe side and talk with your doctor. K.

You do know that Seroquil has been linked to causing heartattacks and strokes in other wise healthy patents. Yeah, I said heartattacks with an S on the end. My best friend recently died from 2 major blocked arteries due to taking Seroquel. Know what you are taking dear. k. Please.

If you are taking Seroquel for sleep only? Seeing as most people are only on 25mg - 50mg nightly for insomnia
The antipsychotic efficacy is generally in the dose range of 100mg to 750mg Contacting your doctor would be the best advice.
