Effects of long term drug abuse on the mind and body?

What are some effects associated with long term drug abuse on the mind and body. Specifically in a female who began abusing at a young age.
Thank you.

It depends on the drug(s) used.

Meth has profound effects, causing hyperactivity, nerve damage, brain damage, rotting teeth, paranoia.

Marijuana causes premature senility, mood disorders, brain cell damage and lung damage.

Cocaine and crack cocaine can cause brain damage, mood disorders, and nasal cavity lining erosion.

I also know each drug has the potential to cause heart damage.

These are the ones I know, but I am sure there are more damages from each drug. Other drugs I am not certain what damages they cause.

I had an older friend from my local school who began using cocaine while he was in the Navy and while he was a civilian. He literally changed in personality and now has the capacity of a 10 year old and requires assistance from family and mental/ developmentally disabled caretaking agency. It is very, very sad...

depends what drug

Infertility, heart problems. Memory loss, learning disability. Inferior genes passed onto children. Mental and emotional problems.

The long-term effects will vary based on the drug (s) abused. I will say that long-term effects are definately inevitable. Once you start using a mind-altering drug, it actually changes the way your brain behaves. It can effect you both physically and psychologically and, even though you quit, you will never be able to regain the brain you had before.

Cocaine acts on your brain neurons in the reward pathway. Cocaine promotes the release of dopamine. The increased dopamine levels give drug abusers the rush or a high. However, these feelings are only short lived but the damage caused on your brain can become permanent.

You also develop a craving condition. If you don't give in to the craving, you go through withdrawal symptoms and find it hard to cope with them.
