Fear of drowning?

this is really wierd? ive been playing polo and swam for YEARS and i have no idea but this summer i started getting kind of afraid of drowning? like in the water i like start to hyperventilate? its real wierd cuz i love the water and havebeen in it a while....any tips? and im not seein a shrink or my coach or something i gotta rep to keep ; )

There's no shame in asking a doctor or psychologist for advice. No one else (your coach, teammates, friends) would even have to know about it.

It isn't normal to have an irrational fear like this, so unless you've recently experienced some close call in the water that you didn't mention, it would be worth it to talk to a professional about what these fears might mean. Could be repressed memories, a breathing problem, or maybe you're just feeling out of practice and worried that you've lost your "mojo."

Take Care.

Maybe it's a primonition, if you beleive in that sort of thing. That is really odd, though.

in your past life something happen. believe it or not?

FACE YOUR FEARS

Yes, you've got a rep to keep, but a good reputation means you treat people well, including yourself. It's not a sin to get help for a problem. You're asking us, right?

I wouldn't recommend seeing your coach about it, but why not a psychologist or social worker? He or she could talk to you about it at length, and I bet that after a few sessions, the two of you would get to the bottom of the problem. There's no pressure here - just think about it. I want you to get a good solution to this problem.

Something in your subconscious could be trying to warn you to be more cautious than before. Oftentimes we are in situations where there are signs that we "see" only in our subconscious minds that emerges later as a genuine fear or phobia we never experienced before. It is there for a reason, so just be more alert than usual.

There are a lot of fears that are generated by an uncertainty or a lack of confidence. For example, I had a fear of public communication. I still get nervous when I speak in front of other, but It gets easier with each time. As I build up that confidence, I become less afraid.

I think your solution may be to spend more time in the pool.
