Eye Color Change because of drowning?

After someone drowns does the pigment in the iris really change colors? In movies (not the best example I know), people that have drowned have this weird faded, almost blue color to their eye. So my question is does this really happen? If so, how?

It happens to all dead people and is not a iris colour change but clouding of the cornea which is the front covering of the eye. The cornea becomes a milky semi transparent layer and obscures the iris colour beneath it.

The cornea is not naturally transparent; it is kept transparent by the active transport of water out by the cells on the back of the cornea. After death, transport stops and the cornea clouds over. You can see this in dead fish at the fish market.

i doubt it. Theres nothing in water that could change it, and if a life and death situation caused it then it would be happening all over the place and everyone would know about it.

I would not doubt it. It would likely be due to waterlogging. I used to breed livestock & the vet said that with a stillbirth, if the eyes are cloudy it has been dead for awhile. It could be something similar with drowning, and this is possibly a case of drowning of the fetus, taking too long to give birth.

Actually it may really happen. (something for you to try just for your own expirement, its totally safe). Put some water on your eyes when they are shut and then open your eyes, you may or may not notice the eye color change for a few minutes. I'm not sure about if drowning has anything to do with that little expirement. But its worth a try. Hope you find the right answer your looking for and that the little expirement is somewhat helpful to straighten things out. :)
