Therapy for down syndrome? |
how much does speech therapy cost for a child with down syndrome? speech therapy for a child diagnosed with DS is nothing! if your child goes through an early intervention program or birth to 3 program offered by the state. if you have insurance your insurance will pick up some of it and the state pays the rest. if you have no insurance the state/county pays for it. I didn't get this information from a website...it is from experience. I am the mom to a little boy with DS and he has been getting physical, speech and occupational therapy since he was 1 month old and I never ever had to pay a dime. and I thank God for the help, otherwise it is 75.00 per hour. The cost varies on where you are in the world and the degree of impediment determines the amount of therapy required. It's like asking how long is a piece of string. Most kiddos with down syndrome are able to attend preschool where speech, physical/occupational/play therepy is done on a daily basis. my 2 special little ones attend an MRDD school 4 1/2 days a week they go on the bus and have a great time at school. Ask your pediatrician if there is a help me grow program available for you to visit and talk to. Most are free and funded by the school district. For children age birth to three contact early intervention in your area. These therapies should be free to children in that age group. After three the school system becomes responsible for your childs therapies. |
