Why is it when you go through a break-up or divorce, you lose weight?

I am going through a divorce and I have not been excising at all, am not a smoker and yet I have lost weight. My pants fit better, they are more loose and I have not changed my eating habits. In fact, I eat more than I used to, but I look so much better! Why is that? Could it be that I am happier and not as depressed as when I was in the marriage?

Not always true. My ex wife gained weight when we were getting our divorce. It has more to do with the way a person copes with stress.

2 possible causes: 1. you are stressed and this is the way you react to stress, losing weight
2. you feel relieved, happier, and before your divorce you were eating too much, again, because of the stress.
When I am stressed, I eat a lot, but when my ex bf left me, I lost a lot of weight because I was crying all the time and I couldn't eat anything.
Good luck in your new life!

I would have to agree with you, while you were in an unhappy situation the stress can literally have an effect on your over all health.

I am glad that you now look and feel great, kudos to you, but just watch your weight loss, if it becomes significant in a short period of time (10% loss in 30 days), there may be an underlying issue you may want to have a yearly physical with a good blood work up just to be on the safe side.

Good luck to you and I wish you a life time of health and happiness.
