Knee dislocations? |
I have a problem with my kneecap dislocating. It's been doing this for most of my life. I can just walk and it will go out. I've also had it go out when I've jumped up for a block in volleyball, stepping around a corner, pivoting my body without moving my legs, and even going to the bathroom. I have never had it happen to me but I treat people all the time who have this happen. If you want to put it back in place on your own you have to grasp the knee cap in your fingertips and lift it slightly away from your leg just a little and guide it back in place. What can really help you is physical therapy to strengthen your hip muscles so that you dont use your quads so much. at last i thought it was just me! im on crutches coz of the accident that happened coz of my knee abt a week ago. i was dancing and my knee cap dislocated and i had to push it back myself. it was soooooooooo painful nd i could barely move. it swole up three times bigger after that. it happened to me twice before but not as bad. its gettin better slowly and i have to go back to the hosptal after a month. Buy a knee stabilizer. You should be able to find one at Walgreens, Wal-Mart, or CVS. It'll hold your knee cap in place, and prevent it from buckling and swinging on you. My daughter had that problem. I think it started when she was around 10. Mostly happened when she was jumping. She'd push her kneecap back into the groove herself. When she was 14 it started getting worse & happening quite often. She went to physio to try & strengthen the muscles. Didn't help her much. About a year later she had a true dislocation. The kneecap slid off & couldn't get put back in place. She had what's called a MUA. Manipulation under anesthetic. Very painful. She ended up having a " lateral release", where the Dr cuts the muscle on the outside of the knee. She has been fine ever since, and that was about 11 yrs ago |
