Posttraumatic stress disorder and natural disasters?

hello all,i am doing a paper on ptsd and natural disasters. do you think there is a difference in how ptsd affects those who have been through a natural disaster vs other personal traumas

First you need to find out whether the sufferer's exposure to the trauma was short or prolonged, as that difference can be crucial to how the symptoms of the disorder show in each person.

Short trauma mainly results in standard post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), compared to chronic trauma which normally results in complex post traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD).

Natural disasters mainly result in PTSD whereas human trauma can result in either PTSD or CPTSD.. This is due to the fact that the perpetrator is non living and is less likely to cause social dysfunction with other people than trauma caused by man.

Personally I have complex post traumatic stress disorder, and I can tell you that it's more similar to borderline personality disorder induced by trauma that anything else. Seriously both of these disorders are serious but the effects on the mind can vary dramatically based on different people in different situations.

Mutual support, and a common understanding and appreciation of a shared experience is available in the former, but usually not so, in the latter, although specialised groups of similar sufferers may help.

No. Because each person's reaction to a trauma is different.

Just take the people who've been effected by Katrina. Each person handles the trauma differently. Same tragic event. Different responses.

I know of a person who suffers from post-trauma from domestic violence. It comes out specifically when she sleeps.

My personal trauma is more body language associated. A simple gesture sets me off. And I too am a victim of domestic violence.
