Blood draw disaster?

I recently had some labwork drawn to be exact on the 4th of this month. During the procedure it felt like the technician went too deep because my hand went immediately numb. As she kept pulling down to hit the vein the numbness improved some. I then went to the dentist and my hand felt like it was asleep. I went home, took a nap and woke up to semi-paralyzed hand and now as time goes on it looks deformed. Can this happen? Has anyone ever heard of this happeing? Please help!!!!!

She most likely hit a nerve. Go to your doctor, dont let that lady ever drw again.

go to emerg =she may have ruptured a vein or used a dirty needle=did she wipe your arm with an alcohol swab first?

The woman who drew the blood may have hit a nerve. The median nerve runs through the antecubital area where they try to draw blood. You should have this folowed up on immediately. You might even consider a lawyer. This might not go away right away.

Yep, sounds like they hit a nerve. I'd get it checked out ASAP. Keep all of the documentation from the doctors that see you in case she hit a nerve.

I've heard of hands' being paralyzed after waking up from sleep also! Has that ever happened before to you? If not, you should go to your doc to have it looked at, but lawyer isn't probably necessary, nerves repair themselves! I would file a complaint though with the lab manager if your doc thinks this is related to the blood draw.

Sounds like she hit a nerve! Legally phelobotomist are bound to the three tries rule! If the technician does not successfully draw blood after three attempts. She is bound by law to pass on your blood draw and have another Phelobotomy Tech, Nurse,M.A,Doctor,Etc. complete the draw.
Did she attempt the draw more than once? because its very possible on the last draw, She went "Fishing for Veins" Its a Big No No and can result in nerve injury.
Regardless of how it happens, I would place my bet in your case on a nerve injury.Nerves do repair themselves over time. But the interim can be very uncomfortable and down right scary.
I'm not sure if you have a case for a lawsuit. As there is always some risk involved when having a procedure done.Even if it is a simple blood draw. But then again only your doctor can asses the extent of your injury and make recommendations as to what course of action you should take.Just be sure to see your private doctor before they ask you to see on of theirs! Good Luck

Without actually seeing what you are describing I can guess that a nerve may have been hit. If the numbness isn't improving follow-up with your doctor.

Sounds like they hit a nerve in your arm. I've had a nerve hit just last week in my arm when the nurse gave me my allergy shot, and I also have numbness, and pain in my arm. It can take a while to heal, but if it doesn't get better go to your doctor. Good luck.
