Tampon Disaster - Oh DEAR?

I found my young child of 5 digging through my purse. She located my stache of tampons, and upon dragging them out, inquired what they were. I told her very simply that when she gets older, she will have to deal with something called a period, during which they will come in handy, but until then, she doesn't have to worry about it. She persisted to ask about their specific use, and exasperated, I informed her that they go inside her vagina.

Fast forward to the next day, I came home from work to find my daughter in her room with one of my tampons in her vagina. Since she is very young and small, it got stuck half way in. She was bleeding very heavily, and I had to use tweezers to pull it out. My husband was downstairs, which is why he did not hear her. My question is, why did my daughter do this, and is she a virgin anymore?

1. I'm sure a 5 year old would not know how to put a tampon in her vagina.

2. If that's your daughter then im sure you would know that you can't lose your virginity by using a tampon.

I think you need to contact her pediatrician about it. It is possible it did not rupture her hyman, but it could have caused some kind of damage to her..??.. I dont know. If she was bleeding, then something hurt her when she did it.

As far as why she did it- that is just a 5 year olds curiosity!! Once they find out something CAN go in there, thats ALL they do!!

If you were really old enough to have a child, then you would know that you cant lose your virginity by using a tamon, and you very rarely break the skin in there by using a tamon, so even if your five year old figured out how to use a tampom she probably would bleed.

She did it out of curiosity and because she wants to be like you. My young son (who had to come with me in public bathroom stalls) mistakenly thought I was sticking them up my bum. I found him running around w/ one in his bootie one day.

As far as being a virgin...of course she is. Her hymen may be broken, but really that is an old fashioned idea to think that determines virginity. Now that girls are so physically active (horses, bikes, etc.) most girls do not have an intact hymen at the time of their first sexual experience.

Do have her checked by her doctor immediatly though just to make sure she doesn't get any kind of infection (who knows where else that tampon was prior to being lodged in her vagina)...it may have been in her bottom which could cause quite an infection. Also, have her doctor discuss the dangers of sticking things in your body's holes (ears, nose, bum, vagina etc...) I am confused though why it would require tweezers to remove...if it was sticking half way out why didn't you just use the string?

WHAT? I find it hard to believe that a 5 year old would do such a thing..usually if something starts to hurt-they STOP doing it! And I imagine it would hurt the girl if she was bleeding. My question is, is this just a cover up story for a more serious incident? Take this girl to the hospital NOW and let her tell the story to the dr's. Little girls aren't good at lying.
