Many believe psychiatrists are not well trained in learning disabilities?

Some today believe psychiatrists are not well trained in learning disabilities at all and that their training should be upgraded or a whole new field of medicine be devoted to learning challenges rather than mixing up learning disabilities with moods, depressions, psychoses, anxieties, lesbianisms, homosexualities, cross-dressing, marriage and divorce counseling, bi-polar challenges, etc.

Agree? Disagree?

I agree! I have a young friend and he was diagnosed with several disabilities. Dr's including Psychiatrists stated he would
not develop or have the capacity to learn. He has had great staff working with him one on one over the years and guess what?
He can read a little, play video games, ride bikes and has an incredible vocabulary. He has a great personality and would have been discarded by some in the medical field!

Depends how severe the disability is - I personally think mildly Dyslexic University Students get far too much financial help (free laptop, free internet, refunds for textbooks etc) compared with students with diagnosed mental health issues such as depression or mood disorders which are generally much more debilitating but who get nada (mmmm bitterness!)

Many mental health professionals end up in that field because while going to college they took so many related courses trying to fix themselves that getting a degree seemed like the thing to do. Broken minds trying to fix other broken minds.

Yes, there are few that actually earn their fees and are comprehensive about their clients needs. That is a very low percentage though. Less than 20%.

Consult a psychiatrist because first you say'Many believe...'Then'Some today believe...'
