Learning Disabilities Diagnostic Clinic for kids, a school in a hospital. Anyone tried this? |
My son is having emotional issues that are hurting his school work. We've tried some meds, counseling, etc. Now they're suggesting this school-in-a-hospital program, but I'm worried it could throw him even further out of the norm. My son has been through just about every treatment program in the book. First, get away from the definition of "normal". All it does is make you and your son feel badly. Normal is whatever you are dealing with at any given time. All of the normal kids at the school are dealing with something or another. You will need to try a number of different treatment programs until you find the right one for your son. It may be this one for awhile and as he grows and matures he may move to a different program. Measure his progress against where he has been rather than where the "normal" kids his age are at any given time. Give him lots of love and hugs and kisses. I have personally been to a hospital school. It really helped me get on with my work. As the correct support was there for my illness. The school will also communicate with your sons own school were they will get work from, this means you son will complete his work in a much smaller group and also be around children who also have simular problem. For I finished hospital schooling( 9months) I returned to my own school and carried on as normal. Although some of my friends I ment in hospital school were unable to cope with gereneral school they were able to complete GCSE's at the hospital school. I wish you and your son all the luck in the world and would suggest to try it and he may achieve more than he could do in his own school cause of the help available well i dont know |
