Is Scoliosis part of Disabilities? Can some one with this kind of surgery work in the future?

Is Scoliosis part of Disabilities? Can some one with this kind of surgery work in the future?

By your first question, I take it to mean you want to know if scoliosis is considered a payable disability. It depends on the type and severity and if it inhibits one from working. Most scoliosis does not. If you're considering filing for disability you will be evaluated to determine if you are truly disabled.

For your second question, usually yes. Surgical repair can be so successful that a friend of mine had a severe lateral scoliosis and had several vertebrae fused when she was younger and we both showed our horses and were ski instructors, so I'd say she turned out just fine.

I'm disappointed that the Asker didn't choose a best answer herself but I thank the Voters who chose mine. Report It

It really depends on the severity of the scoliosis. In severe cases, it can certainly be considered a disability, particularly if it limits you physically. For extreme cases, surgery can help correct the scoliosis. For most scoliosis cases, the person can lead a normal, active lifestyle but may be limited slightly in their range of motion. They also may become physically sore after vigorous exercise and may be restricted when it comes to lifting, etc. Even after a scoliosis surgery, most can work in a job that does not require strenuous physical duties.
