stroke that effected her right side. I am so sad she has been crying. It hurts me so. My question is two fold. She says she doesn't want to stay in hospital after 3 days. I spoke to her Doctor today and he said she will be off to Rehab for 10 days. My Mom is on a fixed income with medicare and they only pay 80% she is worried about that It made her blood pressure go up. Also she left a durable health directive) NO POWER OF ATTORNEY for finances what do, her bills still need to get paid
and I work Part-time.Any suggestions help....... I am so sorry about your Mom - unfortunately I am an expert in strokes. You need to talk to the social worker at the hospital. There are many programs that can help your Mom. Plus Medicare part A pays a fixed amount for a hospital stay - staying longer as an inpatient will not cost her more money. Get the social worker to help you apply for Medicaid for her right away - in some states it will go retroactive to the stroke date and it will cover everything that Medicare does not. Also, Medicare pays 100% for home health care that includes physical, occupational, speech therapies and nursing. There is a lot of help available - you have to ask for it. I know how you feel. When my grandmother had a stroke she went to a care home where she can have nurses care for her from time to time. It depends where you go. Since on a fixed income and no POA would suggest hiring a private nurse to care for her at the comfort of her own home that way you can be there for her. my dad had a storke a couple of years ago when i was 10. i dunno it may be different circumstances but ur mum's stay in hospital seems a bit short. my dad spent about that long in hospital and it turned out to be only a mild stroke - in a lot of circumstances that means there could be a bigger on on its way. i kno that because the nurse told me when my mum, sister and brother were racing around gathering things and waiting for the ambulance after his second stroke. he's alive tho. |
