Do you think that there is enough evidence available to recommend dietary supplements for their health benefit

Do you think that there is enough evidence available to recommend dietary supplements for their health benefits? Do you think dietary supplements should be regulated more closely? Give reasons why or why not?

People who take multi-vitamins live about 2-3 years longer than people who don't. There is also increasing scientific evidence that even greater amounts of certian vitamins may reduce disease. Regulating these things more closely is not free. It means you have to go to a physician, who is afraid of lawyers (and so may not prescribe even it they think it's OK) and then you have to pay them. This type of regulation would put the benefits out of the reach of most people, and probably do more harm than good. The regulation methods we have now are adequate. There are always going to be cases where they don't work but over-reacting to news stories designed to sell news papers is one of the biggest problems we face as a country. Why don't we let people who actually know what they are doing handle this..
