What's the difference between: Dietary Fiber, Soluble Fiber, and Insoluble Fiber?

What's the difference between: Dietary Fiber, Soluble Fiber, and Insoluble Fiber?

Fiber in the diet is very important for proper bowel function and health. Insoluble fiber is fiber that does not hold water in the color, fibers like wheat fall into this category. Soluble fibers are those like hemicellulose, that chemically are molecules of glucose linked together by a beta linkage that we do not have the enzymes to break down so it becomes fiber. Soluble fiber does hold water so it provides a soft stool. Both fibers are important, we should get about 25-35 grams daily of fibers with at least 3 grams being the soluble type. Sources of soluble fiber include oat bran, legumes, apples, pectin, peas, and more.
Hope this helps.

soluble fiber is fiber that your body can break down. insoluble fiber your digestive track cant break down which coins the term "roughage(however you spell that)" by some people. having plenty of fiber in your diet allows for steady solid bowel movements... ultimate poopage.
