Why does dietary fat cause more serious concern than dietary sugar where developing Diabetes is an issue?

It's not. At least not really.

The underlying reality here is that there is a connection between weight and type 2 diabetes.and claires do count in that respect. The reasons why fat tissue contribute are not so clear, but seem to be connected with the recently discovered fact that fat tissue is source of hormones and other signals. Some influence the immune system, some to the intestines, some to the brain, etc. It seems that fat tissue in and around the intestinal organs are particularly significant, and only small reductions in the amount of that fat reduce type 2 diabetes risk substantially.

Fat tissue elsewhere (hips, thighs, etc) seems not to be so important in this regard.

calories

Bodies need fuel to do necessary (or even unnecessary) things. That fuel comes in two forms -- mostly. Fat (eg, liquid oils or solid fats such as lard) at 9 Calories per gram, and carbohydrate at 4 Calories per gram. If you eat only fat, then that will be the source of fuel, and similarly with carbohydrate. Almost no one does, though, so fuel comes in both forms. Carbohydrate, at least in the form of glucose, is stored in various cells as glycogen, and the stores in the liver are returned to the blood as glucose when needed. When glucose is present in the blood (and in non-diabetics insluin is prestent), the liver processes fats into a form suitable for storage in fat cells, and fat cells store it away. When glucose levels are low (and in non-diabetics insulin levels are low), liver cells tack glycogen back into glucose and put it into the blood. When the liver runs out of glycogen (and insulin stays low), fat cells dump lipids back into the blood for use as fuel.

There is very little interconvertibility between fat and carbohydrate. In the fat to glucose direction, a small part of most fats (the glycerin backbone in triglycerides) can be converted into glucose, but not the main portion, the fatty acid chains. Similarly, some amino acids can be converted into glucose as well.

In animals, including us, there is no pathway to go the other direction, though plants are equipped to do so. Thus, the common claim that too much sugar (or starch or soft drinks or ..) will end up a fat isn't quite true. In the case of glucose (or glucose producing foods such as starch), the effect is that the glucose forces the fats to be stored, rather than being burned as fuel. So the net effect is somewhat the same.

too much sugar causes diabetes but too much fat can cause many cardio vascular problems, like clogged arteries that can lead to a heart attack that can kill u instantly. so avoid too much fat and sugar.

hmm do more exercise

Because diabetes mellitus occurs more commonly in obese people, and a high-fat diet is likely to cause obesity. Obviously, a diet that is low-fat AND low-sugar would be best. In other words--no more doughnuts.

Sugar IS worse for you than fat - whether you are dealing with diabetes or not.

You should avoid the artificial trans and hydrogenized fats because those are the ones that your body can't process (and end up where you don't want them) but your body NEEDs healthy fat to function. The healthiest fats are omega-3 fatty acids, extra-virgin coconut oil (best for cooking), extra-virgin olive oil (not best for cooking), and butter.

Sugar, on the other hand, will cause your blood sugar levels to rise triggering your body to send a rush of insulin to try and bring it down to a safe level. Do this to much and you risk wearing out your pancreas and you will have diabetes. Having too much insulin in the blood stream isn't healthy anyway and can cause a host of other problems as well.

If you want to do a bit of research on this point of view a good website is www.mercola.com. Good luck.

Obesity is one of the causes of diabetes (type-2).Dietary fat gives us more calories than sugars and can cause obesity. One gram of fat gives us 9 Kcal of energy in comparison to one gram of sugar(4 Kcal).Naturally, fat in the diet will contribute more towards development of obesity and subsequent development of diabetes. Also, in case of diabetes also there is disturbance in the fat metabolism in the body and excess of fat in the diet, can raise the fat in the blood (cholesterol etc) substantially, thereby causing deposition of fat in the blood vessels of the body and also blood vessels of the heart.
