Does anyone knows the diet or dietary supplements to help fight insulin resistance?

l exercise at least twice a week, own and use a treadmill since march of 2005 and weights and there is so much fats around my waist some times l get tease if l am expecting a baby. l don't have significant fat anywhere else. l will wake up in the morning with aches and pains around my waist. My father and his cousins have the same problem But, there drink a lot of beer and l don't drink any form of alcohol.

low glycaemic-index foods - foods that will provide you with energy for longer periods of time. eg. brown wheat pasta, rye bread

Also, increase exercise, decrease fat and sugar intake, and avoid gaining weight (which increases your chance of insulin-resistance)

Consult your doctor or a dietician, who can put u onto a structured eating plan.

It sounds like the luck of genetics... but, there are things you can do:

1. Start with your doc just to make sure there isn't anything physologically causing it (thyroid, etc)

2. Good for you for getting on the treadmill and sticking it out this long. I too am gaining weight around the middle. And the only way my doc said it's going to come of is cardio. Walk/run-- an hour a day. (I'm not there yet, but I keep plugging away)

3. If you're disciplined enough, stay away from white foods-- bread, sugar, potatos... at least for a while to see it that makes a difference. Then, stay away from foods high in fat content, and see if you make progress that way.

4. Bottom line: the math is simple. More calories expended than ingested mean you're going to lose. And while there are no "target zone" diets that have any merit, the walking or running will help the tummy.

Good luck!!!
(and remember: as Werner Earhardt once said, "The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.) :)
