Russians sometimes eat slices of raw pig fat. What specific vitamin (P-something?) do they get this way?


I'm a Canadian in Moscow. I was horrified to be offered white slices of raw pork fat to eat, plain. The intelligent guy said a specific dietary vitamin is obtained thus, but he couldn't recall the details: "It's P- something," was all he could say, with the caution, "of course you must eat very little of it!" Is there any truth in this "P-something?"

Selenium, in particular. Besides it, it's not only vitamins we have to get from food to be healthy. some vitamins are simply not assimilated without fats.
