Diarrhea? gross.?

if you don't want to answer this seriously, please don't. k:)

My friends brother was feeling sick (diarrhea, vomiting, etc) this past tuesday. The day after, he went to the doctor and was diagnosed with viral gastroenteritis, which includes watery diarrhea, cramps and vomiting. I was around him in the car and at a baseball game that day, and now I have had some diarrhea which began friday night. I have not had vomitting, but did have a couple stomach cramps before my diarrhea episodes started. It isn't as bad today, only one "episode" really.

I can pretty much assume I caught a little virus from him since I do not have food allergies and did not eat anything that made me sick...but has anyone else had this, or anything like this before? How long did it last? Also, what kinds of foods are good to munch on?

I have been eating plenty of bananas, yogurt and other things...but I am gonna get sick of that! Any other foods? Any home remedies for this, or diarrhea in general? Thanks!

well, you should look at how long your brothers friend was sick, and that could give you a general idea of how long you could have the virus, typically a virus doesnt last more than 7-10 days but you do not seem to be as bad as your brothers friend. I know this may sound gross but it is actually better to have those "episodes" because thats how the virus exits your body.

hope you feel better soon!

If you're feeling better today, you're probably almost over it. these things are what they usually call a "24-hour bug." If you want to be cautious, don't eat anything spicy or hard to digest, like cheese, french bread (crust is hard to digest), fried foods. Stick to simpler foods. And be sure to drink water. Don't overdo the water. Four or five ounces an hour while you're awake should be fine. Don't drink juice, because the sugar can upset your stomach. You can tell by looking at your pee if you're getting dehydrated. It should just be kind of yellow -- not a bright yellow. You're probably not getting dehydrated, though, if you only had one episode of diarrhea today.

You can eat any types of foods but try to stay away from milk, cheese, spicy foods and beans. Try buying some Pepto Bismo and take some.

If your brother eats a lot meat--hamburgers, hotdogs,
linguisa and any other sorts of sausages, pastrami,
salami and/or bologna--then let him know he should
stop eating that junk, and quick!
A doctor isn't likely to tell him that sort of thing. They
do need to make their money off of any and all their
patients. But the fact of the matter is, although meat
is a source of protien--one of the most basic and the
most vital of all nutrients--it's a very impure source:
unlike fruits and vegetables, which come from the
earth, meats come from animals; and they carry a
lot of germs and viruses. (Enough said?)
Well.... I can also tell you this: dairy products, such
as milk and cheese, are also sources of protient. But,
because they also come from animals, they also lack
purity.
Yogurt and cottage cheeese can be exceptions to
that rule; they're both good for you--but, be sure to
get them in "non-fat" form.
It makes a difference. (Hence the phrase: "You are
what you eat.") That doesn't mean if you eat a lot of
nice, healthy granola bars, you will begin to look like
one. It means, if you have a well-balanced diet, you'll
be healthy. And you eat a lot of junk food? You know
the rest.

Good luck!
