Diarrhea - Imodium Question?

So last Saturday I had a bout of diarrhea in the morning and so I took Imodium for the first time. And about a week later the diarrhea came back in the morning then went away...then I had normal bowel movements and then it came back this morning.

Did the Imodium delay my symptoms? It was my first time taking it so did it work differently for me? Diarrhea always clears up on its own for me and I rarely get it. What's going on?

Persistant diarrhea is a symptom of an underlying disease. The Imodium would have been out of your system in a few hours, so it did not keep you diarrhea free for a week.

This could be a symptom of colitis or enteritis.

well it is suumer, could you have eaten anything that made you sick? Have you been exposed to anyone that may have given you something.

THe Imodium is not the source of your problems.

the imodium is not your problem

you could call the 24 hour nurse line
you will find the number listed under your local hospital listing in your phone book

it is a 1-800 or free call
and you will talk to a registered nurse

if they feel you need to see a doctor or if you will be okay

good luck

Sorry for this but "who gives a shite?", real answer... the body is a wonderfull product and will heal itself unless the reason is something more serious and then Imodium might mask the problem... most preparations state "if it persists consult a doctor"... sound advice

Well, do you know what caused the original diarrhea? If it was something you ate that irritated you, then yes, the original offending poop is still going to be inside you, as the immodium only slows down gut movement, it doesn't cure the problem (ie fix tainted food). It may be that your insides need time to get back to normal after being slowed down by a drug.

Are you stressed? That can make your insides do stupid things, which may be what's going on. If it continues for one more week without immodium (I think it's probably a good idea to not take it any more), then see a doctor. Go to the ER right away if you start pooping blood.
