Zithromax - diarrhea side effects?

I have vaginal burning and all the swabs are coming up negative. The gynocologist said that sometimes minor infections don't show up in the swabs but are fixed by zithromax. I am a little scared about taking zithromax since I have had chronic diarrhea for 5months which is only starting to clear up now and I have heard that zithromax can cause chronic diarrhea. Has anyone else experienced problems with chronic diarrhea (or stomach cramps which I have also got) when taking zithromax? Please answer, I'm too scared to take it without finding out more.

The stomach cramps and diarrhea I have had already without taking zithromax. I realise that they are side effects of zithromax and do not want a repeat of them when I am getting better. That is why I asked the question - to see if anyone had experienced diarrhea that wouldn't go away or whether they had only experienced it for a while or whether they hadn't had any side effects like that...

Drugs.com lists the the two side effects that you are having as being "less serious" and ones that should be discussed with the physician without interrupting your dosing. It further states that if the diarrhea is bloody or watery you discontinue taking Zithromax immediately.

* Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
* Stop using azithromycin and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
o diarrhea that is watery or bloody;
o chest pain, uneven heartbeats; or
o nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
* Continue using azithromycin and talk with your doctor if you have any of these less serious side effects:
o mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, or stomach pain;
o dizziness, tired feeling, or headache;
o vaginal itching or discharge; or
o mild itching or skin rash.
* Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

* Do not use azithromycin if you have ever had an allergic reaction to this medicine or similar drugs such as erythromycin (E-Mycin, Ery-Tab, E.E.S.), clarithromycin (Biaxin), or other macrolide antibiotics.
* Before taking azithromycin, tell your doctor if you have:
o liver disease;
o kidney disease;
o a heart rhythm disorder; or
o a history of Long QT syndrome.
* If you have any of these conditions, you may not be able to use azithromycin, or you may need a dosage adjustment or special tests during treatment.
* FDA pregnancy category B. This medication is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.
* Do not take this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
