Diaper rash or something much worse?

This is a very tochy subject and I only ask the question because I refuse to be naive about the subject. My two year old daughter has had a very bad persistant diaper rash that includes sever boils. She has been on adult strenght antibiotic twice to try to kill any infection. I thought it was cleared up but now is again showing the starts of another "boil" total she has had over 15 of them. They are very large pimples by the looks of them with large balls of infection deep under the skin. Now the problem, they are all in her "diaper area." The babysitter is a good friend of mine and she and her girlfriend have been ok as far as child care. I have some concern as to the mental health of the girlfriend. I know that both of them have herpes and my question is could my daughters "rash" be a symptom of it? Yes, I have my concers but I would have suspicions no matter who watched my kids. Please give me your input whatever it may be.

It sounds like you've taken her to her pediatrician. I think you should take her back again and tell the pediatrician all of your concerns. Make sure to mention that although the boils seemed to clear up with antibiotics, they came back.

Another thing you can do is go online and do google image searches of anything that you think the boils might be. The pictures are usually gross, but at least that way you will have some idea of what different illnesses look like.

Bring your suspicions to the attention of your daughter doctor. He/she needs to know all the possible concerns. It may not occur to him that herpes is even a possibilty.
