Diaper rash caused from antibiotics? |
My 15 month old has a red rash covering the entire butt, and privates area. He has been on antibiotics for a week now. I am a very viligent diaper changer (can't stand them even a little wet). Is it possibe that the medicine is causing this rash? I soak him in the tub, air dry him out. I have used Desitin, A&D, Balmex and even started using Bag Balm but it's just getting worse. Anybody have the same problems and know what to do to help? Yes, both of my children usually got rashy after being on antibiotics, especially if they had any antibiotic related diarrhea as well. Unfortunately, there's not much more that you can do for him. Just use the antibiotic and see if it clears up once he goes off it. He could also develop a yeast infection based diaper rash, where weirdly enough, he would need an antibiotic diaper rash cream. Just call his doctor if you are overly worried...your his mommy, you know him better than anyone! :) It sounds like a yeast infection. Yes infants can get them and yes antibiotics can cause them. Regular diaper rash ointments can actually make it worse. Call your pediatrician and ask what he/she would recommend. If he were a little older, I'd tell you to by an over the counter yeast infection treatment and use it topically (on the skin) in the affected areas, but at 15 months, it is best to clear this with his physician first. Good luck & I hope your baby is feeling better soon!! Yes the rash could be caused by the antibiotic but it could also possibly be an allergic reaction to the antibiotic. Have you talked with his doctor about it yet? I think that by this time it's not a bad idea to check with him/her to see what is a suggested treatment. |
