Swollen diaper rash?

My 10 month old has been having diarrhea lately. I called the pediatrician and was told it was pretty normal during teething. So I didn't worry about it. He has also been having some diaper rash that I put Bordeaux (sp?) butt paste on. Every diaper I change has been that way. But tonight when I changed it it was REALLY bad.. I mean red every where and there are spots that were swollen. Almost like hives. I am definately taking him to the doctor first thing in the morning but I was wondering if anyone had this happen before? Or do you know of a way that I can soothe him? I tried a warm bath and he screamed bloody murder and refused to sit down. He won't sit without the diaper to pad ? Any suggestions... I feel awful for him..

oops I don't know how this ended up in this category.. sorry.

First, it's not your fault. My sister and I went through this with my niece, we cried for 3 days straight and felt horrible when we had to send her to daycare with that awful rash. This is what we found; in my niece's case she was actually allergic to the type of diaper she was wearing, coupled with the fact that she was learning to potty train and didn't want to tell us when she was wet. We had to stop using the wet ones for awhile, and instead used a warm soft rag. It was also back to sponge bathing for about 1.5 weeks, until she realized she was alright. My sister (just called her), said she too used the Boudreaux's Butt Paste and that usually cleared it right up, but on this occasion she had to get a prescription cream from the doctor. Good Luck!

try A&D ointment. I used it on my kids, and still use it for lots of skin problems. maybe he is allergic to bordeaux.

Sounds like he is having a reaction to the cream. Try a cool oatmeal bath.

for now leave the paste off. Sounds like more of a yeast diaper rash for which your doctor will prescribe a nystaten cream. I would recommend lots of air and possibly a cool wash cloth to help w/ the pain. also try so Tylenol or ibuprofen for his pain. Good luck and just so you know all moms have had this happen.. You have done nothing wrong.

Oh my gosh, the poor baby. I have been there before myself. There are two things that can help.
First: lay him face down. Make sure the whole area is clean, no matter how much he screams, it must be clean. Once it is completely clean, pour mylanta directly all over his little butt and let it get onto his testicles as well.
Second: Let it dry. Leave the diaper off for a little while.
I know this sounds really gross, especially when he has diarrhea. You don't have to do this part (leaving the diaper off even after it dries) but it totally does help to let the air get at it.
My daughter had a really bad diaper rash (I didn't need to do the mylanta though) and I just cleaned it and left her diaper off for a while. I put a mattress padd on my lap and just let her sit on my lap. Yes, she peed on me a couple of times, but it really helped after a little while. I hope all of this helps.
